David Carballo Memorial Fund

Established by Coda International Tours in memory of friend and colleague David Carballo, and as a vehicle for friends to pay tribute and honor his life by making contributions to an important cause, the David Carballo Memorial Fund seeks to provide funding to the Latino Commission on AIDS SOMOS program. SOMOS is an initiative seeking to eradicate homophobia as a cause of higher rates of HIV transmission among Latino gay and bisexual men. All funds generated through this fund will be directed towards SOMOS.

SOMOS…is an innovative HIV prevention project, with a goal to increase sexual self-regulation by addressing the cultural scripts that decrease self-esteem, lower sexual control and competency, decrease social isolation. It aims to address the se nse of fatalism among Latino gay and bisexual men, and change external factors, that cause these cultural scripts to undermine the enactment of safer sex. It accomplishes this through community-level interventions that address homophobia in New York’s Latino communities. For more information click here
