• In 2004, although Hispanics comprised 14 percent of the U.S. population,(2) they accounted for 20 percent of new AIDS cases and 19 percent of total AIDS cases.(1) •

were men. (1) • In 2004, 7,090 Hispanic men were newly diagnosed with AIDS in the U.S. Of these cases, 45 percent were from male-to-male sexual contact, 18 percent from injection drug use, 11 percent from heterosexual contact, and four percent were from male-to-male sexual contact and injection drug use.(1) • In 2004, 2,084 Hispanic women were newly diagnosed with AIDS in the U.S. Of these cases, 49 percent were from heterosexual contact and 21 percent from injection drug use.
