Are there enough culturally sensitive prevention interventions?
Though many of the interventions currently being disseminated under the DEBI project by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have been proven effective, they have been researched with very specific populations. The focus is on the implementing communitybased organization to adapt the intervention to make it more culturally specific. It can often take up to a year of preparation for the organization to adapt the intervention so that it is culturally sensitive and appropriate to the target population.

Business Leaders, Advocates and Celebrities Unite at Cielo Latino 2009, In support of the Latino Commission on AIDS
Unidos Podemos – United We Can – was the rallying theme that brought together Hollywood stars, entertainers, Latino health advocates, business leaders, community members and elected officials in support of the Latino Commission on AIDS at its 14th annual Cielo Latino gala benefit at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City on Tuesday, May 12th, raising funds for the Commission’s programs and initiatives to stop HIV/AIDS in the Latino community.

Sharing Lessons Learned: What would improve HIV prevention efforts in your community?
After five years of conducting Capacity Building Assistance work, we still encounter organizations that are unaware that these services are available to them. We believe that prior to starting with the implementation of any intervention, organizations should conduct a thorough needs assessment, formative assessment and organizational assessment and send staff to trainings such as Behavioral Theories, Logic Models and Formative Assessment Approach to Selecting DEBIs training.
