Latino Commission on AIDS hosts first Deep South Planning Meeting in Charlotte, NC to address HIV/AIDS.

Hispanic populations have the fastest population growth rate of any community in the Southern United States. On November 9th & 10th, 2009, the Latino Commission on AIDS in collaboration with the Office of AIDS Research (OAR), of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is hosting a Deep South Planning Meeting to discuss the current state of HIV/AIDS in the South, especially its impact on Hispanics.  More than 40 representatives from seven Southern states – including Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina – will share their expertise, experience and concerns about HIV and Hispanic populations in the Southern US.
 
The meeting will take place at the Doubletree Guest Suites Southpark in Charlotte, NC.  Charlotte has become a major financial and transportation center within the South and has witnessed a growing and thriving Hispanic community.
 
Who:    The Latino Commission on AIDS in collaboration with the Office of
              AIDS Research (OAR), of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
 
What:    The Current State of HIV/AIDS in the Deep South Planning Meeting
 
When:   November 9th &10th, 2009
 
Where:  Charlotte, NC (Doubletree Guest Suites Southpark).  
 
Why:     Representatives from research institutions, health departments, CBOs, faith-based, community members and media will be involved in discussing and designing collaborative action plans to address HIV/AIDS "a hidden epidemic" that is impacting the Hispanic community across the Deep South region of the United States.
