Myth vs. Reality

Myths: The effects of marijuana disappear within a few hours.
Reality: Difficulties with memory, concentration, coordination and reflexes can last up to three days after a session of smoking marijuana.

Myths: Marijuana isn’t as harmful as tobacco.
Reality: Marijuana has more cancer causing substances than tobacco, and produces chronic bronchitis. There are other long term negative effects some are similar to those for tobacco use and some are specific to marijuana use.

Myths: Anyone that consumes drugs can stop using anytime they want
Reality: Someone who is addicted or dependant (to illegal, legal or prescribed drugs) can stop using substances with the help of a treatment program and the assistance of a substance abuse professional

Myths: Drugs alievate stress and can help you deal with problems.
Reality: Certain substances can make it so that you can forget yourself as one of its side effects, but when these effects disappear, the problems will continue to be there, sometimes worse. While there are drugs that are prescribed to help with anxiety or depression, these must be taken under the supervision of a psychiatrist.

Myths: Alcohol helps with sexual performance.
Reality: Drinking alcohol helps with lowering inhibitations to approach and initiate sexual situations, but it may disable your physiological reaction which interferes with your sexual response and have an episode of impotence.

Myths: Drinking on the weekends doesn’t cause any harm.
Reality: The harm of drinking alcohol depends on the quantity that you ingest. It is not the same to drink two glasses on the weekends as it is to be drink every weekend, since it can cause long-term consequences such as damage to the brain and liver, accidents, violent episodes, etc.

Myths: Cocaine is only addictive if you inject it.
Reality: Cocaine can produce a very quick addiction, it doesn’t matter the method of consumption whether it’s snorted, smoked like basuco or injected.
