Born and raised in Venezuela, Francisco earned a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages (English and Spanish) degree from Zulia University. He immigrated to the United States in 2002 and has since focused on the field of HIV prevention education and services. He went on to gain experience providing pre- and post-HIV test counseling at the Commission’s Access to Care Services and was involved in the development and early implementation of the program.

Claudia Tejada, MSW

Born in El Salvador and raised in Washington Heights, Claudia earned a Master of Social Work degree from Lehman College and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Women’s Studies degree from SUNY Purchase. Over the past ten years, she has worked in the field of HIV prevention and began work at the Commission’s Access to Care Services.

Lorena Borjas
Senior Outreach Worker (Comadre) Born and raised in Mexico, Lorena is a woman of transgender experience. Over the past 15 years, she has worked in the field of HIV prevention and harm reduction as an educator, consultant, and facilitator. She is currently pursuing accounting at New York University and has completed various trainings and certificates in the field of prevention. She currently facilitates a transgender support group at the AIDS Center of Queens County (ACQC). Recently she has received various recognitions, for her strong efforts in the transgender Latina community, from Puerto Rican Initiative to Develop Empowerment (PRIDE), TransEmpowerment of New York, y Jessenia Paparazzi.

Lorena St. Cartier
Outreach Worker (Comadre)
Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, Lorena is a well-known personality in New York City as a female impersonator, entertainer, hostess, event promoter, dancer, choreographer, and model. She maintains an online presence on Facebook as La Comadre and uses videos to promote community events and outreach on important health information in Spanish with the Latino LGBT community.

Laura Martinez
Outreach Worker (Comadre)
Born and raised in Mexico, Laura is a woman of transgender experience and a celebrated nightclub performer in New York City. She is as a hostess, event promoter, and dancer.

Carlos Vargas
Outreach Worker (Compadre)
Born and raised in Mexico, Carlos is the newest member of the outreach team. He is committed to working with the Latino LGBT community, particularly gay, bisexual, and MSM population, and to help provide better access to services.




Listening and Helping
Coordinators
Our experienced counselor coordinators will meet with you privately to hear about your current situation in order to develop a plan to assist you in overcoming internal barriers and work through these in order to improve your well-being.
Peer Educators
Our comadres and compadres promote well-being within their social networks and community settings, and also identify hard-to-reach Latino MSM, transgender Latinas and Latino MSTGW in order to refer them to the individual-level intervention services.
counseling at PARAR Case Managers
Our social work case managers will further assess any service needs to provide appropriate referrals, offer accompaniment, and communicate with providers to follow-up and determine if needs have been met.
