Dr. Spring Cooper is an Associate Professor at the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy. Her research is in understanding sexual agency and how it relates to sexual health outcomes. Her expertise is in sexuality, sexual health, and health communication. She has done extensive work in the development and evaluation of interventions for young people, and has a podcast directed at young people (The Sex Wrap) to answer questions about sexuality and close the gap left by the lack of high quality sex education.

Andrew Spieldenner
Dr. Andrew Spieldenner
California State University-San Marcos

Andrew R. Spieldenner, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at California State University-San Marcos. Dr. Spieldenner's research is at the intersection of health and intercultural communication focused in HIV and the LGBTQ community. Dr. Spieldenner has held positions at Latino Commission on AIDS, Black AIDS Institute, National Association of People with AIDS and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. A longtime HIV activist, Dr. Spieldenner currently serves as Chair of the United States People living with HIV Caucus and North American Delegate to UNAIDS.

Deion Hawkins

Dr. Deion Hawkins is a lecturer and Director of Debate at Emerson College. Deion is a health communication scholar whose research utilizes intercultural theory to mitigate health disparities. As a researcher, Deion has studied a myriad of topics including police violence as a health issue and HIV in the Black MSM community; he is an avid social justice advocate for marginalized communities. In addition to his work in academia, Dr. Hawkins has worked as a health communication consultant for various social marketing campaigns, combatting issues like human trafficking, advanced care directives, youth homelessness and PrEP awareness.

Gabriela Santana Betancourt
Gabriela Betancourt, MPH
Latino Commission on AIDS

Gabriela Santana Betancourt is the Deputy Director of Research and Evaluation at the Latino Commission on AIDS. She holds a BA in Sociology from Binghamton University, an MA in Latin American & Caribbean Studies from NYU, and an MPH in Epidemiology from Columbia University. She is currently completing her DrPH in Epidemiology at the CUNY Graduate Center. Prior to entering the world of research, she worked as a direct service provider with at-risk youth as a health educator and counselor. She is the child of immigrant parents from Cuba and the Canary Islands. At heart, she is still just a kid from the Bronx trying to make her way and give back to her community.
