United We Did It. On May 10th, 2011, Hollywood and Broadway stars joined forces with news anchors, entertainers, Latino health advocates, business leaders, community members and elected officials in supporting the Latino Commission at its annual gala, Cielo Latino.

Cielo Latino, the largest fundraiser for Latino/Hispanic AIDS initiatives in the U.S, came alive this year with the theme AIDS Unmasked, which unveiled the many issues still affecting people living with HIV/AIDS, including stigma and health issues such as diabetes and hepatitis.




The event was hosted by Emmy Award-winning reporter, WNBC's News 4 New York, Tom Llamas. Celebrity attendees included actors Rosie Perez, Lupe Ontiveros, Tony Plana, Wilson Cruz, Steve Guttenberg,Yancey Arias, and Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza. The Grammy-nominated salsa band the New Swing Sextet was the Commission’s headline performer, along with DJ Henry Knowles.

Voz de Compromiso
The Voz de Compromiso Award honors the selflessness and commitment of persons living with HIV/AIDS who through example have dedicated themselves to enlighten the public about HIV/AIDS and support others who are infected or living with the disease. In 2011 the award was given to Humberto Cruz, Director of the AIDS Institute since 2007.

Compañero Award
The Compañero Award recognize important partners of the Latino Community, who, through their efforts, have contributed to improving the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS and to the fight against the disease in the Latino community.The award was given to Anderson Cooper, anchor of CNN's Anderson Cooper 360.

Pioneer Award
The Pioneer Award honors community leaders who saw AIDS as a challenge and committed themselves to contribute by taking some action to fight it. The award was presented posthumously to Jose Morales, one of the founder of the Latino Commission on AIDS
Gilead GILEAD
Business Leadership Award
The Business Leadership Award recognize organizations that support the fight agains AIDS by creating innovative treatment, medical breakthrough or improving the life of people with AIDS in any way. In 2011 the award was given to Gilead.
